Shows like Tulsa King: 7 picks for afterwards
Finished Tulsa King? Seven series with gangsters out of place, from Taylor Sheridan's world or with mob humour, and how each one differs. Spoiler-free.

In , New York mobster Dwight Manfredi gets out after 25 years in prison and is shipped off by his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he knows nobody. Sylvester Stallone plays him with dry humour and old-school manners. Taylor Sheridan created the series, and Terence Winter, who wrote for The Sopranos and created Boardwalk Empire, ran the first season as showrunner. The fourth season started in October 2026, and a fifth has been ordered. Here are seven series for afterwards, sorted by what you like about Tulsa King.
A gangster in the wrong place
Lilyhammer
2012, 3 seasons.
The connection: a New York mobster who ends up somewhere he does not fit at all and builds a new business there with old methods. The difference: instead of Oklahoma it is Lillehammer in Norway, and he gets there not from prison but through witness protection, because supposedly nobody will look for him there. Steven Van Zandt plays him, known as Silvio from The Sopranos and as Bruce Springsteen's guitarist. Half English, half Norwegian, and quick to watch with 24 episodes over three seasons. The most obvious pick after Tulsa King.
Barry
2018, 4 seasons.
The connection: a man from the world of crime who wants a fresh start in a world that is foreign to him, and lots of dark humour. The difference: Barry is a hitman from Cleveland who comes to Los Angeles for a job and gets stuck in an acting class. Bill Hader created the series with Alec Berg, plays the lead and often directs, and Henry Winkler plays the vain acting teacher. Short episodes of around 30 minutes that get darker from season to season.
Taylor Sheridan's world
Landman
2024, 2 seasons so far.
The connection: Taylor Sheridan, Texas instead of Oklahoma, and an older man with dry one-liners who has to mediate between dangerous people. The difference: it is about oil, not the mob. Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, the crisis manager of an oil company in West Texas, who deals with accidents, investors and a cartel. Jon Hamm and Demi Moore co-star. A third season has been announced.
Yellowstone
2018, 5 seasons.
The connection: Taylor Sheridan, and a patriarch who defends his empire by any means. The difference: not a mobster but a rancher. John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, fights for his huge ranch in Montana, against developers, the neighbouring reservation and sometimes his own children. More western than gangster series, but with just as much violence behind the scenes.
Mayor of Kingstown
2021, 4 seasons.
The connection: Sheridan, organised crime and a man who brokers between all sides. much darker. Kingstown is a small town in Michigan that lives off its prisons, and Mike McLusky, played by Jeremy Renner, handles the deals between gangs, inmates, guards and police. There is little to laugh about. A fifth and final season has been ordered.
