The timeless tale of King Arthur and the legend of Camelot are retold in this passionate period drama. Arthur is reluctant to hand the crown to Lancelot, and Guinevere is torn between her loyalty to her husband and her growing love for his rival. But Lancelot must balance his loyalty to the throne with the rewards of true love.
The film tells the Arthurian legend as a classic Hollywood adventure with big images, castles and plenty of pathos. It relies on romantic gestures, sword fights and a dignified, slightly ceremonial tone rather than grit or historical realism. Sean Connery gives it weight as the ageing king, while the love triangle drives the pace.
Good for you if you enjoy knightly romance, swashbuckling adventure and grand love stories in a medieval setting.
